The Danish city of Copenhagen is traversed by canals and harbors, and part of it — "Nyhavn" (New Harbor) — is famous for the colorful gabled houses along the water.
In the game Copenhagen, players must design new façades for these houses so that they fit seamlessly into this beautiful harbor setting. By using the cards on displays, players receive the corresponding façade polyomino tiles, with which they beautify their houses. Overbuilding certain spaces and floors gives them additional skills for the rest of the game. Floors that consist of a pure window front are particularly rewarding and bring the players many points.
The Deluxe edition of Copenhagen features acrylic tiles with transparent windows (instead of cardboard).
Missions and Abilities Expansion
This expansion includes three modules, designed for advanced play and to give the game even more variability.
- New Ability Tiles: Four new sets of Ability tiles.
- Missions: Two missions are selected each game, which give a new way of gaining points if completed, or can earn players Joker tiles.
- Joker Tiles: Transparent 1x1 window tiles that can be placed on top of a piece to make it a window, or can be placed as normal and is considered all colors when getting a discount.
"Nyhaven" and "New Facades" Queenies: Multicolor Tiles
Nyhavn: Includes 5 size three (3) tiles and 5 size five (5) tiles (in acrylic).
New Facdes: Includes 5 size five (5) and 5 size six (6) tiles (in acrylic)
To get a multi-color tile, you have to discard cards in the exact color combination of the tile (so, for instance, a purple, green, and blue for the size 3 on the left, or three yellow and two red for the size five on the bottom right). You can get a one card discount if, when placing the tile, one of the squares is touching a previously placed tile of the same color (as normal), but you can only get this discount once, and only of the color it is touching (if it is touching more than one color, you can decide where to get the discount).
The size three tiles are added to the game in addition to the normal tiles, whereas the size 5 tiles replace the normal size 5 tiles, keeping the competition for them high. The size 5 tiles also feature completely different shapes for an new challenge.
